Hard Drives: Failures and Fanboys

January 16th, 2009 by kteck | Comments Off | Filed in Hardware

Hard drive failure is a common thing is these modern years due to: outsourcing,  high density storage, and many other reasons. Some people make a big deal out of the failures… sure it can be expensive if you must recover you data but its not the end of the world.  The biggest issue is that the fan boys of certain brands will attack another brand when it has failures typically evolving into a fight between brands.

Take for example the newer Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 drive failure… Some people are using that as a excuse to bash them and promote other brands.  Tho there is a forum thread started on a forum that is collecting info on working/dead drives from that series…. I feel that is a better way to handle it.

Basically expect more drive failures in the years to come due to larger and larger drives.

Duke Nukem 3D High Resolution Pack

December 21st, 2007 by kteck | Comments Off | Filed in Games

In my previous post i covered Duke Nukem in general… this post will feature
Duke Nukem 3D High Resolution Pack.

What is the High Resolution Pack (Quoted from: http://hrp.duke4.net/about.php)

Remember “Duke Nukem 3D”, the great first-person shooter 3D Realms released back in 1996? Its cool protagonist, ingame atmosphere, original weaponry and many other features make it worth playing even today.

For all Duke fans who want to play the game again in a modern Windows environment with 3D accelerated graphics, the Duke3D community has created the High Resolution Pack (HRP). Utilizing the amazing skills of various texturing and modelling artists, the project´s goal is to replace all textures and sprites with high-res versions, optimizing it for latest OpenGL ports.

Here are some screenshots:

Duke Nukem 3D High Resolution Pack 8bit Classic Duke Nukem 3D High Resolution Pack 32bit Polymost

Duke Nukem 3D High Resolution Pack in 8bit Classic mode

Duke Nukem 3D High Resolution Pack in 32bit Polymost mode.

I have been using the High Resolution Pack ever since it started as a afew people wanting to make Duke Nukem 3d look better. The pack has gotten considerably better over the many versions. It’s kinda cool to play the same game that i have played iver 9 years… it never gets old :) .

I fully recommend High Resolution Pack to any old school Duke Nukem 3d player :)

Check out the High Resolution Pack @ http://hrp.duke4.net
