Games on a non-games laptop

February 9th, 2009 by kteck | Comments Off | Filed in Games, Hardware, Mozilla, Release Candiate

I recently upgraded to a Toshiba Satellite laptop and was surprised to find out that it’s Ati Radeon Mobilty HD 2400 did Bully: Scholarship Edition amazingly well. As a test  I copied the bulk of my games over to the laptops tiny 200gb hd (It will have 500gb later on) to do testing and found that most of my other games work good too.

Despite the Ati Radeon Mobilty HD 2400 being a sub par series it works good enough for me. Due to the fact i don’t care about Anti-aliasing that wasn’t issue.

In the end if you do casual games and don’t care about high frame rate you can get away with a standard laptop as long as it has a semi modern graphics processor.

My test games were:

Half-Life 2
Half-Life 2: Episode One
Half-Life 2: Episode Two
Portal
Garry’s Mod
Bully: Scholarship Edition

Garry’s Mod

January 9th, 2008 by kteck | Comments Off | Filed in Games

A while back a friend got me into a game called Garry’s Mod… A free mod that was built on the Half-Life 2 Source engine. I had known about it but wasn’t really sure  about it. The first version I used was version 9.0.4 and i later bought Garry’s Mod 10 on steam when it was released in November 2006… The version 9 interface was decent back when i played it but after playing version 10 for a year i chose to go back and try version 9 again and it seems kinda backwards. Also in the mean time i have been playing with the beta of the new Orange Box enabled Garry’s Mod update. Anyway i did some quick tour videos of the 3 Garry’s Mod versions that i have used (yes i count the beta as a different version).

Here are the videos:
