Safari For Windows: First Impressions

Apple released Safari 3.0 beta for Windows today at the WWDC conference. Overall, it is faster at page loads (as it claims), its interface is a hodgepodge mix of iTunes for Windows and OS X Tiger, and its tab management is good but there is room for improvement.

It auto imports bookmarks/favorites from IE and Firefox, which simplifies some things. Many sites that don’t work in Opera work in Safari… overall, it’s a good alternative to Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera. Keep in mind it’s still a beta before you set it as your default browser.

Check it out here.

My fist impression is the immediate good looks. After that, you mention that several sites that don’t work in Opera work with Safari. I’ve been doing side by side [dual monitors] and found the reverse. Case in point…CNN will not detect that I have WMP installed through Safari, yet I can view videos just fine with Opera. Not bashing…just asking so I can see for myself, can you elaborate?

Doesn’t work at all on my system – menus and webpage text are invisible, almost as if it is trying to use a non-existent font. Installed it twice, same results each time.

  5. I can’t get Safari for Windows to work at all on my system (Windows XP Service Pack 2). It just crashes. I’ve installed and reinstalled. I haven’t run into anyone who can get it to work…
